This program is designed to provide an outlet for youth who would like to begin or continue their passion for dance. These classes provide flexible scheduling where dancers may take as many classes as they like. Students are placed in classes based on age and technical experience with our instructors continually assessing to insure proper placement. With a staff focus of building both technique and a love of dance, students build self-esteem, confidence and life skills for beyond the studio. Dancers ages 7 and up participate in the Classics program. Classes are 1 hour in length and focus on a single discipline.
We are a production-focused studio and generally non-competitive. From September until the holiday break, classes focus on developing technique, learning steps and short combinations. After the holiday break, our focus shifts towards production preparation. Technique and new steps are still a part of weekly classes, but the main focus is on choreography for the year-end show. Typically, we cap Acro classes at 12, technical classes (ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical) at 14 and hip-hop / musical theatre at 15. We believe that small class sizes allow the teachers to give individual attention and feedback to the dancers in the class.
Our class levels are based on age (birth year, as schools do) as well as ability. With some technical disciplines, we may stream an age level into Regular / Advanced, usually around age 10. This is to ensure that students in a class are both being challenged but not overwhelmed. Individuals benefit most when in a group dancing at a similar technical level.
