The Classic Program

This program is designed to provide an outlet for youth who would like to begin or continue their passion for dance. These classes provide flexible scheduling where dancers may take as many classes as they like. Students are placed in classes based on age and technical experience with our instructors continually assessing to insure proper placement. With a staff focus of building both technique and a love of dance, students build self-esteem, confidence and life skills for beyond the studio. Dancers ages 7 and up participate in the Classics program. Classes are 1 hour in length and focus on a single discipline.

We are a production-focused studio and generally non-competitive. From September until the holiday break, classes focus on developing technique, learning steps and short combinations. After the holiday break, our focus shifts towards production preparation. Technique and new steps are still a part of weekly classes, but the main focus is on choreography for the year-end show.

We cap Acro classes at 12, technical classes (ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical) at 14 and hip-hop / musical theatre at 15. We believe that small class sizes allow the teachers to give individual attention and feedback to the dancers in the class.

Class Levels:
Our class levels are based on age (birth year, as schools do) as well as ability. With some technical disciplines, we may stream an age level into Regular / Advanced, usually around age 10. This is to ensure that students in a class are both being challenged but not overwhelmed. Individuals benefit most when in a group dancing at a similar technical level.

For ages 12 and up, we have three streams within the Classics: Teen, Inter/Senior, and Inter Adv. Teen classes are for older dancers with 2 or less years experience in the discipline. Inter and Senior classes are for dancers with previous experience in the discipline and Inter Adv is for dancers with alot of experience who have advanced technical abilities. This way, our teen program allows older dancers to start something new without having to dance with “little kids”. At the same time, those who have been dancing for a number of years are grouped with dancers with similar experience and abilities.

Acro classes are based on skills and only loosely on age. With acro, safety is our top concern. Dancers who have been with us previously are assessed at the end of each season and recommended a level for the new year. Dancers who are new to the studio or new to acro will be assessed by one of our acro instructors so we can recommend what class they will best fit into. Acro level recommendations are based on a combination of skills a dancer already knows, if they are technically doing a skill correctly, as well as their overall strength and flexibility.
